Welcome to Technology Talk!
Welcome to the Technology Page for the Dunning Elementary School. This page has been created to keep you informed about how we are using technology tools to enhance teaching and learning, and how you can partner with us in reaching our technology goals. A special ‘thank you” to the Dunning PTO and parents for raising additional funds to purchase iPads, Chromebooks, document cameras, flip cameras, microphones, software subscriptions, Apps and more. Because of your efforts, students are developing essential 21st century digital literacy skills.
The Dunning teaching staff embraces technology actively in their classrooms. Throughout the building, you will see interactive Mimio Boards with Teach Bars, LCD Projectors, document cameras and iPads in use daily. Interactive white boards are input/output devices that allow the user to communicate with a computer by touching the white board screen. This is a powerful tool that brings learning to life in the classroom.
All students from Kindergarten through grade 5 have access to computers and the Internet in our Media Center which is equipped with 25 desktop computers with headphones. Dunning has Internet access in every classroom and a wireless environment to facilitate mobile computing. Teachers have laptops which has freed them up to use technology throughout the building and at home. Many also have additional computers in their classrooms for individualized instruction and remediation.
There are a variety of web based educational subscriptions being used by students at home and in school to reinforce learning that is taking place in the classroom. Some of these packages include Lexia Learning, BrainPop, Spelling City, Raz-Kids, and IXL Math. Students can access these programs at home and in the school.
Printer use has been consolidated to three large printer/scanner/copiers that store the requests in the Internet cloud. This has helped reduce costs for expensive ink cartridges, printer service contracts and paper and has given us more flexibility in sending and receiving print requests. We also have a color printer in the front office for special projects.
